WHAT CAN I EAT?
This is a question I get asked A LOT in my programmes.
Many contact me & ask me about what I eat too.
Many ask what food am I allowed?
Well, the answer is always - you can eat anything you want!
No food is off limits with my programmes. Food is food, there's no good food or naughty food. But it’s important to understand that food is fuel and there are foods that bring you closer to health & make you feel good & then there’s others that bring you further away from health & often make you feel tired & exhausted.
It’s about understanding what certain foods do for you & which ones hold the highest nutrients with the lowest calories (if your trying to lose weight).
I generally eat two big meals per day, (I normally eat around 11am or 12pm for my first meal) then have a protein smoothie snack or a homemade greens juice mid afternoon when I need a little energy boost & then my evening meal around 9pm.
For me, this works for my weight to maintain, if I want to eat bread or cheese or have a glass of wine , I will and not feel guilty for it!
However if I’m looking to lose weight I’ll change up some of those food choices which are higher calories and less nutrient dense to lower calorie choices which are higher in nutrients!
I have hundreds of recipes and meal plans to help those starting from scratch. But after a couple of weeks I encourage everyone to start finding their way by listening to their bodies and checking up on energy.
We used to go heavily on scales / measurements and before and after pics.
The photos is probably the only one out of the 3 I still recommend to use for progress. But otherwise? I go all out to ask them how they feel. Not only on a daily basis but sometimes even after each meal or each exercise workout.
WE HAVE BEEN CONDITIONED TO BELIEVE THAT WE MUST 'RESTRICT' IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT, BUT I CHOOSE 'EMPOWERMENT'.
I would never tell another person what he/she should or shouldn’t eat (we used to run very strict weight loss programme which got amazing results but we’re not sustainable!) so instead I educate about what the food they eat does for them and give them the support and accountability if they want to improve their nutrition.
We need to move away from the diet culture & move forward with the health culture!
EATING SUGAR IS NOT GREAT WE KNOW THAT. BUT SO IS SNEAKING, HIDING AND PUNISHING YOURSELF WITH FOOD OR LACK OF IT.....
I talk about restriction and how that eventually causes BINGEING.
It’s also about understanding your calorie input & output - I’m very active in the day as I teach on average 7 classes per week, But I don't usually use any of those sessions as my workout!
I still need to train for me which I do 3-4x a week. I run 3 times and go for a Sunday hike or cycle. So I keep in calorie maintenance by eating & exercising this way.
I talk about Cortisol, Sleep, Stress before we even start talking about food!
Focus on health, my friends rather than diets!
DIETS DON'T WORK
LET'S END THE DIET CULTURE!
Think longterm, healthy and happy lifestyle!
