Unproductive Thoughts Whilst Working Towards Your Goals, PLEASE STOP THAT.

Updated: Feb 14

I wouldn’t have made it anyway. I’m worthless. Everyone is right. I can’t do this. I’m too busy. I’ll start again on Monday. It’s not the right time. Everyone will judge me. I’m not good enough. What's the point.

These are just a few unproductive thoughts that run through some of our minds when we are trying to reach our goals!

Please don't do that :)

When we are pursuing something that's important to us or working towards a goal or being creative, we must give ourselves GRACE and TIME and CHEER for ourselves.

We do it for everyone else! So why don't we encourage ourselves to keep going, support our OWN SELVES and cheer us along the way?

The unproductive thoughts are enough to derail us and sometimes even cause us to stop trying completely.

Remember, If you’re doing something worthwhile, it probably makes you uncomfortable. It probably scares you, and, if you’re like me, it takes a few attempts before you actually do it. That’s okay, just as long as you keep making progress.

Managing unproductive thoughts is something I talk about in my 21-Day Challenge https://www.nataliehill.com/ulyl to work on keeping promises to yourself because it can be such a hindrance in achieving your goals.

ONE DEFEAT DOESN'T MEAN A TOTAL DEFEAT

When I do my wellness programmes I always get the "ahhh I caved in!" or "I fell off the wagon this weekend" or "Nat I'm such a loser I can't stick to anything!" I always remind the groups that messing up once doesn't mean you're a failure. It means you failed this time and we try again.

I AM A FAILURE and I FAILED is not the same thing!

Failing at something simply means you need to work on that specific area a little more. You grab the DATA and we move on to either push harder or try it in a different way.

I am a failure is DEEPER ROOTED. There are usually lots of emotions attached to this, maybe even stemming back decades. To fix the problems in your life you must have power over them. You can't have power over aspects of your life unless you take RESPONSIBILITY for them.

And of course, if you keep sabotaging your efforts, starting over and worse still get PARALYSED in moving forwards, then there might be some elements that need to be worked on a deeper level. And the 21 Day is a great challenge to remove some blocks and move you forwards.

DON'T FORGET YOUR PROMISES

We often give up, fail, or get stuck because we lose sight of what's important in our life. Here I remind you to go MACRO and think ok, hang on what is the big picture here, what is it we want to achieve?

Trusting the process and not following other people's agendas equals SUCCESS. Even with the highs and lows!

Revisiting goals, going back to your journal, checking up on what you promised yourself has to be the daily reason you keep going.

Trust the process and follow YOUR OWN AGENDA.

Mindset is a giant portion of any goal-setting process. It sounds simple: make a goal, create a plan, and do it. However, it’s rarely so simple. There are 100 different roadblocks that can stand in the way, and one of them is dealing with unproductive thoughts.

Remember one defeat is just that, ONE defeat. Be kind to yourself, and always stay focused on why your goals exist in the first place.

You deserve this!
